Common Questions...
How much does a new bathroom installation in Milton Keynes typically cost?
The typical cost for a new bathroom installation in 2024 is £10,000 - £15,000. This includes a full renovation service including all parts, labour and materials. Your bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your house and the only room where you regularly splash water around so it's important to invest in a good quality job. Prices in Milton Keynes tend to be a little bit cheaper than London where the typical bathroom is new £15,000 - £20,000.
What areas do we cover?
We provide bathroom services in Milton Keynes and all of the surrounding towns and villages. This includes Wavendon, Woburn Sands, Aspley Guise, Newport Pagnell, Sherington, Stony Stratford and Leighton Buzzard.
How long does a new bathroom installation take to complete with Dixons?
A full renovation of your bathroom from start to finish will typically take two weeks to complete. A large share of the time is spent on preparation works so the total time required can vary depending on the amount of preparation and alteration works required for your bathroom. Quite often customers only have one bathroom in the house in which case we can try to arrange the work so that facilities are out of action for the shortest period possible. Just a word of warning if someone tells you they can refurbish your bathroom in a week or less be very cautious as it sounds liek a rush job where corners could be cut leading to a poor finish or problems in the future.
Do you provide all services in house?
We provide a complete start to finish bathroom installation service including all design, installation and project management. We have in house plumbers, tilers, bathroom fitters and electricians. We occasionally bring in partners to help with plastering, flooring and decorating when required.
What do I need to think about when designing my bathroom?
Most people start with the look they want work backwords which is great for inspiration but it can lead to some issues. We recommend that most people should prioritise function and practicality over style. Keep it simple and follow these three guide lines:
- 1. Make your new bathroom bright Your bathroom usually the first place you go when you wake up in the morning. It’s the place where you go to get washed, cleaned and revived. It’s important that you have plenty of bright light in the room to create a vibrant atmosphere.
- 2. Make your new bathroom easy to clean Now that you have nice well lit space to wake you up in the morning. You need to keep it clean. Think about changes to your design that make cleaning your bathroom easier. Anything you can do to remove awkward bathroom cleaning areas such as skirting boards, small gaps, pipes, old radiators, etc will help to create a crisp clean look in your room.
- 3. Make your new bathroom easy to maintain Your bathroom needs to stand the test of time and be maintainable in the long term. It’s easy to get over obsessed with style and forget that in ten years time some of the fixtures may need to be maintained or replaced. Bathrooms in Milton Keynes suffer from very hard water which means lots of limescale and therefore it does reduce the life expectancy of plumbing fixtures such as bathroom taps, toilet parts and showers. Avoid installing anything that would require tiles to be removed in order to replace or repair it.
Once you have covered the basics above then its time to add a bit of style to your bathroom. There are so many amazing bathroom products and bathroom styles to choose from nowadays. Our top tip is to think it terms of design themes rather than individual items. Once you pick a design theme for your bathroom try to apply it across as much of the room as possible. Some example themes are modern bathrooms vs Traditional Bathrooms, rounded finishes vs square finishes, chrome bathroom finishes vs black bathoom finishes, simple finish vs decorative finish.
Do you install mobility bathrooms?
Yes we have installed may mobility bathrooms over the years. Often a bath is removed and replaced with a walk in shower. Suitable grab rails and mobility adjusted products are carefully chosen to make life easier for you. If a bathroom is being renovated because of disabilty then you may be elidgilbe for a VAT free installation. Please ask to find out more
What size tiles do you recommend?
We always recommend larger tiles be installed in a bathroom where possible. This is because grout lines are one of the first things to age in a bathroom. Grout is a pourous substance - if you have two much damp and humidity in your bathroom then over the years the grout may start to discolour. Having larger tiles provides a cleaner, more waterproof surface. More recently extra-large format tiles have started to become more popular. These look great but please be aware the installation cost is higher for extra-large format tiles as they require two men teams to move around.
How much of my bathroom should I tile?
All water proof areas in your bathroom or ensuite should be tiled. This includes shower areas, areas close to the floor, areas around sinks and toilet and areas around baths and towel rails. It can be nice to break the room up by not fully tiling every wall floor to ceiling. You may wish to leave some walls with just half height tiling to allow for a painted wall. Or you may wish to chose a second tile with a different texture to put on some walls to break it up.
Will a new bathroom add value to my house?
Yes, if done well a new bathroom is said to add around 4-5% to the value of your house and it will certainly make it more attractive to potential buyers when you come to sell.

Billy did an incredible job; we couldn't have asked for a better plumber. He initially came out to give us a quote and advised us on the best course of action as he couldn't fit us in for that day. He then rescheduled jobs to come back later that evening. He worked quickly and efficiently and ensured the working area was clean afterwards.
Great workmanship and very helpful and approachable - very happy with the work done. Happy to recommend!
Billy got in touch within 10 minutes, was round for a quote that night, and then was ablle to complete the job the next morning. Will definitely use again!
Billy came to assess the problem within 1.5 hours of my initial call, sorting out the heating on the coldest day of the year! He then fixed the boiler, which had a faulty gauge the next day. Excellent service, thank you.
I was very impressed with Dixons Gas and Plumbing as they have done an excellent work on an emergency call out for a leak in our bathroom. They have identified where the leak was coming from within minutes. The plumbers were efficient, punctual, courteous and professional. Would definitely use them again and would definitely recommend them. Well done guys
Billy came out at short notice and did an amazing job. He even came back later that day to relook at something. Absolutely brilliant plumber and I highly recommend him. Can't thank him enough.
